Woke up today to mom’s Merc ML350 with its doors open and ransacked. What’s weird is nothing was missing.
This is why I’ve been telling my dad to get a Ring.

Do you have garage door opener - any chance that’s missing? Apparently that’s thing to steal and come back for easy access to the everything.
My neighborhood is currently plagued with nightly thieving it seems. However, people are leaving their cars parked in their driveway and unlocked with stuff inside...so I have little compassion for it. I wish they’d stop making where I live such an easy target.

This happened in my neighborhood. People made it worse by leaving their garage door openers in their unlocked cars.
Probably kids playing around. Nothing valuable taken, just messed up.

Was the car in the driveway and unlocked? I’ve had my van rifled twice because I forgot to lock it. I talked to a deputy about it, and he said, “Do you check your front door before you go to bed? Check your car too.” So, every night when I turn in, I beep both cars in the driveway to make sure they are locked.

Very much this.

Well, the front doors don’t lock, so that could be it

Might want to get that looked at.

Our garage door was just replaced, so no openers are set up right now.
As for the unlocked part, our ML has this problem where the front doors don’t lock. We were supposed to get that fixed tomorrow.

The disable the locks so that they can come back later and steal it. Definitely check that all the fuses for doors and shit are in place.

That happened to our next door neighbor a few weeks ago. We assume it was kids being the unholy assholes that kids are (no offense) but it does give me an uneasy feeling and had me looking at cameras.

Nothing super valuable here either. It’s obvious that it’s known how easy it is to swipe some small things in our area as it’s becoming an almost daily update.

Check out Wyze cams, they cost a fraction of the price compared to Ring or Nest. Free cloud storage AND the option for a microSD with local storage.

Got to get a Ring floodlight cam. It provides such piece of mind when your car is parked outside. Several of my nei gh bors cars have been broken into, and that’s why I got one.
One day shortly after installing it, in the middle of the aft ernoon two sketchy guys in a pickup pulled into my driveway. I wasn’t home, so I turned on the siren, and they took off.

No offense taken considering the popular kids at my school are popular for doing stupid shit

The lock actuators don’t work in the front. Were supposed to get that fixed

We were literally supposed to do that tomorrow

Why have a garage door opener in your car when you don’t even put your car in the garage? thinkingemoji.png

Good question. These homes are built with the standard “2-car garage”, which is in no way big enough to fit 2 of what today’s Texan calls a car (e.g: Expedition, Tahoe) and any amount of other stuff.
So one or both cars are often parked in the driveway, and they have clickers in them, or Homelink, so they can take turns parking inside or just be able to open the door remotely from the car . And here’s the kicker: our community has a gate, the maintenance of which takes too much money, and that everyone thinks actually protects them from criminals . So, people leave their car doors unlocked and are then surprised that someone comes by at 2:00 a.m. and opens them, gate notwith standing.

Couple months ago, someone’s exterior camera caught a kid nosing around cars testing doors. A resident saw him and he freaked and hid. They posted it on our HOA site so everyone got to see this kid cowering between car and garage.
Bet ya it didn’t result in more people locking their doors, but maybe.

Yes, I have a Wyzecam Pan in my carport, and a Wyzecam V2 on my front porch. They're protected from rain, and haven't had any issues so far.
